Sam Brabham to make F3 test debut at Donington
Sam Brabham will make his Formula 3 test debut with Carlin during the British F3 media day at Donington Park on Tuesday
Son of Le Mans winner and ex-Formula 1 driver David Brabham and grandson of three-time F1 world champion Jack, the 19-year-old is competing in British Formula Ford with JTR this season after making his car racing debut in the category in 2013.
Team boss Trevor Carlin managed the Bowman team with which David Brabham won the 1989 British F3 title and Macau Grand Prix.
"The family link makes it a bit more special," said Sam. "Dad had a good year that season; he won the British F3 title and Macau.
"Hopefully I'll be able to emulate a little bit of the success he had when he was driving with Trev.
"I've only ever heard people say good things about an F3 car. Everyone says you have to try one at some point, whatever it is you're doing in your career."
Carlin said there were currently no plans for Brabham to race in F3, but that he hoped that might change.
"We're very excited to see Sam in the car this week," said Carlin.
"I watched him at the [FFord] season opener at Brands Hatch and he was really on the pace and was unlucky not to come away with more than third in race three.
"The Formula 3 car will be a new challenge for Sam so we'll be focusing on helping him get the most from the experience and hopefully enthusing him to want to return to F3 in the near future."
