Dennis keeping McLaren F1 team 'on its toes', according to Button

Jenson Button says Ron Dennis's increased involvement with the McLaren Formula 1 team has put everyone "on their toes" this season

Dennis is taking a more active involvement in McLaren's F1 operation this season following the removal of Martin Whitmarsh - who succeeded him as team principal for the 2009 season - earlier this year as part of a restructuring of the squad.

While Dennis is still in the process of re-organising the team, which has included the recruitment of Eric Boullier as racing director from Lotus, Button said that his return has had a noticeable effect.

"I spoke to the guys during testing, the mechanics, and I asked how they felt about Ron being around more often," said Button.

"They said they were going to be on their toes a little bit more, but I think they're happy about that."

Why Dennis reclaimed 'unfit' McLaren

Button added that he felt the changes have had a positive effect internally at McLaren.

"There's a very good atmosphere around the team," he said.

"The guys are not here just to get paid for doing a job, they love this job and they love achieving.

"They want to win and they think Ron being back at the helm is the best for that."

Dennis attended the Australian Grand Prix as part of his more hands-on approach, and Boullier said that was a sign of how involved he is with the race team once again.

"He's very connected to the team in every detail," said Boullier. "He's passionate and he loves to win.

"So yes, he wants to check everything. He told everybody he would be here as an observer, and he wants to observe everything."

Dennis has previously stated that he is in no hurry to finalise the remaining parts of his planned restructure for McLaren as he has faith in the team to succeed in its current form.
