Wet weather running planned for final day of Jerez F1 test

The final day of this week's Formula 1 test at Jerez in Spain will be devoted to wet weather running, Pirelli has announced

With F1's regulations stipulating that at least one of the 12 pre-season days must be devoted to wet running, an agreement has been reached for that to happen at Jerez on Friday.

Pirelli has told the teams that it will wet the track for that day's running to complete the tests it plans for its rain tyres.

However, if rain hits the test before Friday, then it will switch its plans to get its wet weather running done on that day.

Analysis: Why testing is so different in 2014

F1 teams will get to try out the final configuration of 2014 tyres at Jerez in Spain this week, with Pirelli suggesting that the new products will be very different to last year's.

However, a bespoke tyre for the tricky conditions of testing in winter has been introduced as well.

"The 2014 tyres are just as different to their predecessors as the 2014 cars, with the majority of our preparation work having been carried out by using advanced data simulation, as well as real on-track testing," said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.

"Last year, the teams lost some pre-season running due to excessively cold conditions in Spain: we even saw some ice on the track at one point.

"In order to combat this, we have developed a special 'winter' version of the hard compound. This will be used for the Jerez test only and it is designed to work effectively even in cold conditions."
