Oliver Webb to make prototype debut in Daytona 24 Hours with OAK

Briton Oliver Webb will make his prototype debut in this month's Daytona 24 Hours with the OAK Racing squad

The 22-year-old, who contested his second season of Formula Renault 3.5 in 2013, will share OAK's Morgan-Nissan LMP2 with Olivier Pla, Roman Rusinov and Gustavo Yacaman in the United SportsCar Championship opener on January 25-26.

The deal follows his first forays into sportscars last year with a series of one-off outings aboard a Fortec-run Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 car alongside his FR3.5 programme with the same team.

He also tested an LMP2 ORECA-Nissan 03 for Sebastien Loeb Racing at the end of last year.

Webb, who raced in Indy Lights in the US in 2012 between his two FR3.5 seasons, said: "I'm delighted to be joining OAK Racing for the Daytona 24 Hours, a race I've always looked up to and wanted to compete in, especially while living and racing in the USA in 2012."

New OAK Racing team principal Philippe Dumas stated that he did not expect Webb to have any problems getting grips with the OAK Morgan-Nissan despite not getting the chance to test ahead of the event.

"There's not a big difference between driving an LMP2 and a single-seater at the level at which he's raced, so he should have no problems adapting," he explained.

Pla, Rusinov and Yacaman all took part in the official pre-Daytona test earlier in the month.

OAK confirmed Yacaman will contest the full season in the USC's Prototype class, but is yet to reveal his identity of team-mates.
