Kevin Harvick in outburst against Childress after Martinsville clash
Kevin Harvick launched a stinging attack on his Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup team after a clash with its protege Ty Dillon during Saturday's Truck Series race at Martinsville
Harvick is leaving Childress for Stewart-Haas at the end of the 2013 season after a career-long association that began when he took the late Dale Earnhardt's seat in its Cup team following the legend's death at the 2001 Daytona 500.
He was driving for NTS Motorsports in the Truck event when he tangled with Dillon's RCR entry. The pair then clashed again in retaliation under the subsequent yellow, before Harvick parked his truck in the Childress pit stall and remonstrated with crew members.
Dillon and his brother Austin are the grandchildren of team boss Richard Childress and are on development deals with the squad.
"That's exactly the reason I'm leaving RCR because you've got those punk-ass kids coming up," said Harvick afterwards.
"They've got no respect for what they do in this sport and they've had everything fed to them with a spoon. So, I cut him slack all day and he just dive-bombs me in there and dumps me.
"It's a shame you've got to get taken out by some rich kid like that."
Childress immediately ruled out an early split with Harvick, who has four more Cup races remaining with the team, but expressed his annoyance at the outburst.
"I'm disappointed. Very disappointed - that's all I can say," Childress said.
"I've got too much class to say what I really want to say. When I say it, I'll say it to his face."
