Zandvoort European F3: Rosenqvist denies Lynn in race two

Poleman Rosenqvist led all the way, via two safety cars, and looked to have a comfortable advantage until Lynn began to erode it with a few laps left.

But on such a downforce-dependent circuit Lynn found it difficult to close right onto Rosenqvist's tail, and the Swede stayed calm to win in his Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes.

The result was especially significant as Lynn's Prema team-mate, championship leader Raffaele Marciello, stalled at the start and spent the race mired in the midfield, finishing 16th. Rosenqvist's deficit to the Italian is now down to 34.5 points.

"A good day - 50 points," said Rosenqvist. "Our approach was to go really quick at the beginning, and I was trying to make a big gap but unfortunately there was a safety car and I couldn't use that gap. Each time the safety car came out my tyres got worse compared to Alex's and I struggled a bit."

Daniil Kvyat lost out to third qualifier Lynn at the start, and spent most of the race under pressure from Carlin team-mate Jordan King. Just behind them, Fortec Motorsport driver Pipo Derani fought off Carlin's Harry Tincknell, with the Van Amersfoort Racing car of Sven Muller looming to their rear.

Tom Blomqvist finished eighth, while Mitchell Gilbert got himself on the points-score card for the second race weekend in succession with ninth, with Alexander Sims closing on both of them in 10th.

The first safety car was caused when Antonio Giovinazzi and Eddie Cheever waltzed into the barriers together on the first lap at Gerlachbocht, and the second was for a spin by Lucas Wolf, which caused Marciello to run off the road in avoidance.

Another incident accounted for Felix Serralles, who crashed out for the second time today.

The other Briton in the race, Jann Mardenborough, ran on the fringes of the points but lost time in one incident and then crashed on the final lap.
