World Endurance Championship retains same venues for 2014 calendar

Next year's World Endurance Championship will remain at eight rounds with an unchanged sequence of events through the year

WEC boss Gerard Neveu explained that the priority had been stability when putting together the calendar for 2014, which begins in April at Silverstone, includes the Le Mans 24 Hours in June and climaxes in Bahrain in November.

"The priority for the Automobile Club de l'Ouest [the series promoter] was to maintain stability, first in terms of the number of races because of the economic situation," he said.

"Also, we wanted each event to grow-up, which is why we have kept the same schedule. We wanted to establish a permanent calendar."

Neveu revealed that there had been discussions about moving the second race in Europe, scheduled for Spa in May, to either a German venue or Monza in Italy.

"We made an investigation with three different options," he explained. "Monza made a big effort to welcome us, but our Belgian promoter came back with a very good offer and it made sense to stay where we have built something for the past two years."

An increase in the number of races has not been ruled out for 2015, Neveu said.

The calendar is still subject to ratification by the next meeting of the FIA World Council.
