Daniel Ricciardo will thrive at Red Bull reckons Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez has tipped Daniel Ricciardo to thrive in the high-pressure environment at Red Bull in 2014

The Mexican has first hand knowledge of what it is like to step up from a small Formula 1 team to a big outfit after he moved from Sauber to McLaren for this year.

Ahead of Ricciardo's switch from Toro Rosso to Red Bull, Perez thinks that the change of scene that will come from partnering Sebastian Vettel will not trouble his rival.

"I think it is important that he comes with the right attitude for his team," said Perez. "I know Daniel very well, he is a good friend of mine, and I think he has the right attitude to cope with it.

"I think he will do very well and I expect him to be fighting straight away.

"It will take him a couple of races but, if Red Bull has a good consistent car, he will be with Sebastian straight away. It will be very good for him."

Talent alone not enough for Ricciardo

Perez does think, however, that Ricciardo will notice a big rise in expectations as soon as he steps in to the Red Bull cockpit.

"The pressure raises a lot, and there is a lot of pressure in a team like McLaren and Red Bull," added Perez.

"For sure there is more pressure than he has at the moment at Toro Rosso, or what I had at Sauber.

"But I think as a racing driver you have to focus and deliver to 100 per cent. That is the way to handle it.

"If you cannot handle pressure when you come into a big team you will not succeed and you will last only a couple of years before someone else comes.

"So I think it is important to prepare yourself and do nothing apart from give your best."
