Rally Australia: Latvala fears for chances after poor qualifying
Latvala fears for Australia chancesVolkswagen driver Jari-Matti Latvala is concerned about his chances on Rally Australia following his disappointing showing in this morning's qualifying stage
Last time out in Germany, Latvala led an asphalt event for the first time before going off the road, but on the Australian dirt, he says he is at sea with the set-up of his Polo R WRC.
Latvala told AUTOSPORT: "I am struggling to find the set-up with the car. In Finland I was fighting a bit with the car and it's the same now. On the fast rallies, I can't find the feeling.
"On Tarmac and technical [gravel] roads, the car is good, but I can't get the confidence in the fast stuff. I have the feeling the car is moving a little bit.
"It's in the suspension that I have work to do. I have to find the set-up I am comfortable with."
Latvala added that the problem was accentuated when he was running on Michelin's soft compound tyre.
Talking about his chances of winning in Australia for the first time, Latvala said: "Let's see what happens. It's a long rally and if it rains tomorrow [Friday], then the running order will not be so bad."
Latvala starts the event in third on the road, having finished eighth in qualifying.
