Loeb surprised by form of struggling Hirvonen, Sordo

World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb has admitted he has been surprised by the troubles of his Citroen team-mates Mikko Hirvonen and Dani Sordo this season

Loeb is only contesting four rounds of the WRC this year, leaving Spaniard Sordo to partner factory team full-timer Hirvonen on the remaining nine rallies.

Despite his limited schedule, Loeb remains the DS3 WRC driver with most points this season - while Citroen, manufacturers' champions eight times in the last decade, is 46 points behind WRC newcomer Volkswagen.

What's gone wrong in Citroen's WRC camp?

"With Mikko I'm a bit surprised," said Loeb. "In the past he has always been very consistent and that is how sometimes he nearly beat me.

"I always had to watch out for him because even if he wasn't always the quickest person, he was always there.

"Now it seems different but we've seen this a bit before with Mikko; when he was leading the team for the first year with Ford it was the same I think. Hopefully in the end it will be OK."

Loeb added that consistency was the key from both drivers.

"Dani is Dani," said Loeb, "sometimes he is fast and sometimes not so fast.

"In the end the team needs to be more consistent but I know it's not so easy when you have a strong rival like Ogier and Volkswagen."
