All eyes on Ricciardo as F1 testing resumes at Silverstone

Formula 1's second day of young driver testing got underway at Silverstone on Thursday for what is set to be a day when attention is focused on Daniel Ricciardo

The Australian led the way in the opening running, topping the times in the first hour of action, as he embarked on tyre work for Toro Rosso.

In the afternoon, Ricciardo will be switching to the Red Bull team for what is widely perceived as an audition for a 2014 seat.

Although the conditions of the test laid down by the FIA mean that he will only be allowed to conduct a strict tyre programme laid down by Pirelli, that will still offer enough opportunity for Red Bull chiefs to get a better understanding of what he is capable of.

AUTOSPORT opinion: Take Ricciardo, not Raikkonen

Ricciardo will be taking the place of Antonio Felix da Costa, whose day-and-a-half of running for Red Bull will come to an end at lunchtime.

Red Bull junior driver Carlos Sainz Jr. will get his first taste of action this week during the afternoon for Toro Rosso, prior to moving across to Red Bull on Friday.

The second day of running at Silverstone will have more race drivers in action, as teams try to get on top of understanding what differences the new Pirelli tyres will make for the rest of the campaign.

Pastor Maldonado is in at Williams, although will hand over the car to Daniel Juncadella later in the day once his tyre programme is finished.

At Sauber, Nico Hulkenberg will take over from Robin Frijns this afternoon, while Paul di Resta will be back in action for Force India after lunch when he takes over from James Calado.

Silverstone test line-up as announced by teams so far:

Team Day 2 Day 3

Force India Calado/di Resta Calado/Sutil
