Norisring European F3: Kvyat fastest in practice sessions

Red Bull junior Daniil Kvyat emerged fastest after the two 40-minute free practice sessions that kicked off the Formula 3 European Championship weekend at the Norisring

The Russian, who has contested three GP3 rounds since his last outing in an F3 car, coped well with his return to the cockpit of his Carlin car - and on his first visit to the Nuremberg street circuit to boot - to edge out team-mate Harry Tincknell by one thousandth of a second.

Championship leader Raffaele Marciello was third fastest in for Prema. He missed the opening part of the second session as the team successfully dealt with what the Italian felt may have been a suspension problem.

Tom Blomqvist, Sven Muller, Jordan King and Alexander Sims, on his return to F3 action with T-Sport, were all within half a tenth of Marciello, while Alex Lynn, Felix Rosenqvist and Felix Serralles completed the top 10.

The other Briton, Jann Mardenborough, recovered from a spin at the Esses in session one to go 14th fastest, two places ahead of Lucas Auer, who was quickest with 18 minutes remaining but dropped down the times as he experimented with different methods of attacking the circuit.

Nick Cassidy, on his first competitive outing with EuroInternational, was 22nd, dropping from a first-session position of 19th.
