Holjes European Rallycross: Davy Jeanney tops eventful first day

Davy Jeanney, European Rallycross, Holjes 2013Frenchman Davy Jeanney tops the order after the first two heats of the sixth round of the European Rallycross Championship at Holjes in Sweden.

The Citroen C4 driver won both of his races, setting second and third fastest times respectively.

Second overnight is young Norwegian star Andreas Bakkerud, who won both of his races on track and is again showing well following his form at the previous round, his home race in Norway.

Fellow Norwegian Petter Solberg lies third overnight. After dominating the first heat he was slowed by problems in the second, finishing the last race of the day just ahead of Swedish rally driver Patrik Sandell, who was struggling with a puncture.

Fourth is Alexander Hvaal, who as ever drove with abandon, highest of all over Holjes' famous jump in heat one. Heat two featured an intense battle with Hvaal's team-mate Timmy Hansen, who was third in heat one, ninth in heat two.

Henning Solberg is having his best run of late, holding sixth overnight having managed to keep his Saab on the road all day.

DTM driver Mattias Ekstrom was fourth fastest in heat one, but suffered a puncture in heat two, causing a trip through a gravel trap.

That left him 15th overall, just ahead of Superstars champion Johan Kristoffersson, who had an eventful second heat, shoved into the gravel on the outside of Turn 1 on the first lap.

Reigning champion Timur Timerzyanov retired from heat one with broken steering, while Anton Marklund suffered broken suspension in heat two, compounding a smaller problem in heat one to leave the Swede in 32nd overnight.

British driver Liam Doran had a torrid day, engine failure putting him out of the first heat and leaving him unable to start the second.

The team has set about changing the engine overnight but Doran has his work cut out to make the semi-finals as he is currently in 35th position.
