LM24 H19: Allan McNish keeps Audi in front, lead Aston crashes

Allan McNish continued to lead the Le Mans 24 Hours for Audi while Aston Martin's Frederic Makowiecki crashed out of the GTE Pro lead as rain fell in the 19th hour

Makowiecki took over the #99 Aston Martin from Bruno Senna and shortly afterwards crashed out while exiting the first Mulsanne chicane.

Makowiecki's crash not only triggered the safety car, but also promoted Marc Lieb into the lead of the class - and 17th place overall - in the #92 factory Porsche.

Peter Dumbreck inherited second spot in the #97 Aston, the Brit a lap ahead of Timo Bernhard's third-placed Porsche.

The #2 Audi's lead remains at slightly less than two laps, having changed from slick tyres to wets at its last pitstop. Stephane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima remain second and third in the two Toyotas.

The repairs to the #13 Rebellion Lola-Toyota crashed by Andrea Belicchi over an hour ago are continuing, with the car 15th in the classification and falling.

Ahead of it now are the top eight LMP2 cars, which are still led by Martin Plowman and Alex Brundle in, respectively, the #35 and #24 OAK Morgan-Nissans.

The best battle on-track surrounded the fight for third place in LMP2 as Lucas Ordonez chased down Roman Rusinov.

Both were unlapped by Oliver Turvey's Jota Zytek in a spectacular three-wide moment on the run to the second Mulsanne chicane, while Ordonez passed his rival one corner later.

Jean-Karl Vernay has climbed six places to 28th overall in the GTE Am-leading #76 Imsa Porsche. He is now the best part of a lap ahead of Piergiuseppe Perazzini's #55 AF Corse Ferrari.

Joe Foster - third - lost time when he spun the Dempsey Del Piero Porsche at the final corner when the rain was at its heaviest.
