Jamie Whincup hails V8 Supercar's Austin debut

Jamie Whincup hailed the success of V8 Supercars maiden American race weekend at Austin

The Triple 8 Holden driver extended his lead at the head of the championship after claiming three race wins at the US circuit.

Whincup said he had been delighted to 'step up' to the series' new challenge, which he felt was an immediate success.

Circuit officials said the event attracted a three-day crowd of more than 68,000.

"The number is a very good indication that it went well," Whincup said. "Everyone enjoyed it - it was a great event.

"Whenever we go overseas the locals really look after us and put on a good show.

"I always seem to like to step up when the quality was high.

"We will change it up a bit, maybe throw some soft tyres on and take the mufflers off. We can do plenty of things for next year to spice it up.

"It was a good learning experience [though]; I couldn't be happier."

Steve Sexton, Circuit of the Americas President and CEO, added: "We would like to thank the V8 Supercars series for helping us stage another spectacular event.

"V8 Supercars lived up to its billing for dynamic racing, and we're glad that people from around the world had a chance to visit Central Texas and our new state-of-the art facility."
