Kevin Korjus on standby for Double R British Formula 3 seat

Barcelona GP3 qualifying pacesetter Kevin Korjus is waiting in the wings to join the Double R Racing squad for at least some British Formula 3 International Series rounds

Double R this week placed three entries for British F3, which kicks off at Silverstone on May 25/26.

Two of the team's Dallara-Mercedes will be raced by Italian Antonio Giovinazzi and Indonesian Sean Gelael, who are competing with the squad in this year's F3 European Championship, but the third driver is yet to be confirmed.

Double R team principal Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt told AUTOSPORT that his loyalties lie with Colombian Tatiana Calderon, who is racing alongside Giovinazzi and Gelael in Europe this season.

"I'd prefer to do it with Tatiana, because it would be really good for her to get the mileage," he said.

But he added that Korjus, who competed with Double R in the 2012 Macau Grand Prix, and "a couple of other GP3 drivers" are interested.

"If Kevin does Silverstone, then he's already qualified to compete in Macau this year," said Hieatt.

"We've known him for quite a while, so it would make sense, and it would help him in GP3 because they've got a race at Silverstone coming up."

Regarding Giovinazzi and Gelael, he added: "We're really glad to be back in British F3. It's going to be great experience for Antonio and Sean; they both need as much track time as they can get in their first year of F3.

"We're always keen to support British F3, and hopefully it will have the strong grid of cars it deserves."
