Hungaroring WTCC: Yvan Muller tops second practice
Yvan Muller led a Chevrolet fightback in the second World Touring Car practice at the Hungaroring
Where Honda had seized the initiative in the opening session, this time Chevrolet was in the ascendancy as Muller, RML team-mate Tom Chilton and the Bamboo Cruze of James Nash locked out the top three.
Muller's best, a 1m54.704s, was almost two tenths faster than Tarquini's respective practice-one effort.
The Italian didn't break the 55s mark in the second session, leaving him eighth overall and more than eight tenths down on Muller.
His works team-mate Tiago Monteiro also failed to match his FP1 pace, ending the session in seventh.
Norbert Michelisz in the Zengo-run Civic did at least go fastest early on, but as the Chevrolets improved he was bumped down the order.
He eventually wound up fifth, with defending champion Rob Huff also demoting him late on with a lap that included the overall best in sector one.
Tom Coronel claimed sixth, while James Thompson made it five manufacturers in the top 10 by putting Lada ninth, just ahead of Michel Nykjaer's NIKA Chevrolet.
Several drivers were again warned about exceeding track limits, with Stefano D'Aste black flagged after repeated transgressions. He ended the session 22nd overall.
