Argentina WRC: Loeb not giving up on catching Ogier

Sebastien Loeb is ready to redouble his efforts to catch Sebastien Ogier when Rally Argentina turns south for its longest day on Friday

The Citroen driver trails his Volkswagen rival by 16.3 seconds going into the second day of the event, but still has his sights set on an eighth straight Rally Argentina victory.

"Today's stages are a little bit different in character," Loeb told AUTOSPORT. "That doesn't necessarily mean that they will be better for me, but we will push again.

"I had a good feeling with the car yesterday afternoon, but the problem we had was with the tyre.

"We took the hard tyre because we thought there would be no rain. And, OK, it didn't rain all of the time, but the stage definitely was not completely dry like we thought it would be."

Ogier added he was ready to mirror Loeb's flat-out approach to the stages around Santa Rosa, as he does not regard his lead as safe.

"With so many kilometres left in this race, 16s is not enough to take it easy," said Ogier. "I will push hard."

Following his prolonged illness, the championship leader admitted he was feeling the effects of almost two hours of flat-out driving in the Polo on Thursday.

"I am feeling quite tired," he said. "It's been a demanding day. I am not sick any more, I feel like normal, but I am more tired because I wasn't able to do training for one month."

Loeb's team-mate Mikko Hirvonen is in close attendance in third place, just 1.8s behind the Frenchman.
