Kentucky Speedway keen for IndyCar to return

The track was on the IndyCar schedule for 12 years before it failed to agree terms for a contract renewal with the series when its previous deal ended in 2011.

But speaking at the circuit's fan day last weekend, Simendinger said that he had no reason to believe that the track, which continues to host NASCAR, would not hold single-seaters events again in the future.

"I would see them coming back at some point in time," he was quoted as saying by The Cincinnati Enquirer.

"I'm not sure when that point in time would be, because that's a series that's kind of working on its mix of ovals versus road courses, and they've got a management change there. They're dealing with kind of the economic model of what their races are going to be, and how much money they're going to charge tracks and all that kind of stuff.

"So I think that stuff has to get worked out, but I could see the IndyCar Series coming back here."

Kentucky's final IndyCar race in 2011, which was won by Ed Carpenter, became the season finale by default when the Las Vegas event was cancelled due to Dan Wheldon's fatal accident.
