Signature vows to return to Formula 3 in 2014

The ultra-successful Signature Formula 3 squad will return to the category in the European championship next season, the team's boss has vowed

Philippe Sinault, whose organisation also includes the Signatech sportscar team, aimed to return to single-seaters in this season's new stand-alone European Formula 3 Championship after a year away.

A focus on sportscars resulted in Signature postponing its F3 comeback, but Sinault is adamant that the team will return in 2014.

Sinault, whose team has won the French F3 title, the European Cup and the Euro Series as well as the blue-riband races at Macau and Pau, said: "I really want to do F3 again next year and I would say that there is a very strong chance that we will be back, because F3 is in my blood."

Sinault explained that he hoped to resume his relationship with Volkswagen, with which Signature won the 2010 Euro Series with Edoardo Mortara.

Plans for Signature to return to F3 this year had to be put on the backburner when it looked like he would be running two LMP2 sportscars programmes.

It had been planned that Signatech would run an ORECA-Nissan 03 in the World Endurance Championship under the G-Drive Racing banner alongside its Alpine-branded entry in the European Le Mans Series.

Sponsorship clashes subsequently resulted in the G-Drive entry being taken over by the British Delta-ADR squad.
