Kovalainen focused on return to F1, rules out another series

Heikki Kovalainen is not interested in accepting a test role - or switching to another category - because he still has his sights set on a Formula 1 race return

The Finn is a guest of Caterham chairman Tony Fernandes in Malaysia this weekend, and has made it clear that he is ready to pursue every opportunity he can to get a race seat back.

"I love F1," he told AUTOSPORT. "I really enjoyed my time here and I would enjoy being here again.

"You never know what happens in the future; so you have to keep your eyes open.

"The situation is what it is now; you have to accept it. I don't have any bitter feelings about anything.

"F1 is still the number one to me and things just didn't work out at the end of last year.

"That is just how it goes, but the future - you don't know what comes around the corner. It is better not to give up quite yet."

Kovalainen confirmed that he had offers to move to other race series, or take on a development/test role with other F1 teams, but says that racing is all that interests him right now.

"I already had a few discussions with different teams, and I have not taken up anything," he said.

"I am not really interested in it too much yet. I want to race. I've spent my time keeping fit, and right now I don't feel that it is the right time to be looking at other categories."
