Sergio Perez not regretting McLaren move despite team's issues

Sergio Perez insists McLaren's troubled start to the 2013 Formula 1 season is not making him regret joining the team

McLaren is facing an uphill battle to make its MP4-28 a frontrunner, with the team struggling to extract the full potential from the car.

Perez is under no illusions that he will have a tough time just finishing in the points, but says that the delight of his experience working with McLaren outweighs its current performance difficulties.

"I don't regret anything at all," explained the Mexican. "If they told me before we signed I would be in this position I would have definitely [still] signed with the best team.

"For me, McLaren is the best team and after joining the team I am so happy. I prefer to be in this position with McLaren than at any other team and winning.

"I am enjoying my time here, and I know the team has great people to help us come out of this."

Perez says that he has been impressed with the way McLaren has knuckled down to try and recover.

"I have to say big congratulations to my team," he said. "It is amazing how they are coping with this difficult moment.

"Even for me as a driver, when I joined the team, I thought I was going to be fighting for the front row, the top positions and we are far from there.

"But the approach of the team has been amazing. They are looking for a solution, and instead of people saying, 'you are the guilty one, you did the mistake', everyone is united and trying to get out of the difficult moment.

"Starting with Martin [Whitmarsh], who is a great boss, we are all guilty. It is not that someone did a mistake. We are losing as a team and when we win, we will win as a team together."
