Sergio Perez insists McLaren's staff shake-up won't hurt it in 2013

Sergio Perez insists that McLaren's chances of winning the world championship this year will not be compromised by the technical staffing shake-up caused by Paddy Lowe's planned departure

Lowe has been moved away from McLaren's F1 efforts for the remainder of the year ahead of an expected move to Mercedes in 2014.

His position as technical director has been taken by McLaren stalwart Tim Goss, who will now lead the team's engineering efforts.

Although such a reshuffle of staff is not ideal so close to the start of a campaign, Perez thinks that the changes should not be destabilising at all.

When asked by AUTOSPORT about whether or not he was worried by Lowe's 'departure' just a few weeks before the first race of the new season, Perez said: "Not really. I didn't spend so much time with Paddy.

"I think Tim is a great guy. He has great people around him. I think we've got a great bunch of engineers back at home so there is nothing for me to worry about."

Lowe is poised to take a senior management role at Mercedes following his move to the Brackley-based outfit, and has been viewed as Ross Brawn's long-term successor as team principal.
