Alex Brundle to race for OAK in 2013 World Endurance Championship

Alex Brundle has landed a drive with the French OAK Racing team for the 2013 World Endurance Championship in what will be his second season of sportscar racing

The son of 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Martin Brundle will race a Morgan-Nissan LMP2 alongside team regular Olivier Pla and amateur driver David Heinemeier Hansson in the full eight-race WEC.

Brundle's deal follows two outings with OAK in the WEC last year, which were in addition to his main sportscar programme in the European Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours with the Greaves Zytek team.

Brundle, 22, said: "This is a great place to be at a time when single-seater drivers are moving over to sportscars almost in their droves: I will be racing in the world championship, with a great team and excellent team-mates.

"David led races in his own right in the American Le Mans Series last year [aboard a Conquest Racing-run Morgan] and has amazing pace and consistency for a silver-rated driver, while Olivier is one of the benchmarks in LMP2 in the WEC."

Brundle, who dovetailed a GP3 programme with his Greaves drive last year, said that he wasn't closing the door on his single-seater career.

"I don't have a single-seater drive for 2013, though you never know what is around the corner," he said, "but my focus for this season is on trying to win our class in the world championship and to build a career in sportscars."

OAK has yet to announce the drivers of its second WEC entry. Team owner Jacques Nicolet and Bertrand Baguette are expected to be part of the line-up.

The French team is maintaining its relationship with Dunlop tyres for a fifth season.
