AmD targets S2000 crown in 2013 BTCC season despite NGTC move
British Touring Car squad AmD hopes to target the Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 machines in 2013, despite recently launching an NGTC Vauxhall Astra project
AmD, which has run the S2000 Volkswagen Golf in the series for the last three years, announced this week that it will build an NGTC Astra for the second half of the season.
The team has confirmed it plans to run the Golf prior to the arrival of the Astra, but AmD boss Shaun Hollamby says the ideal is for the two cars to then race together.
"It depends on how we are going with the Golf," he told AUTOSPORT. "I'd like a quick driver as it is unfinished business with the Golf in the BTCC.
"I want it to get the results it deserves."
Hollamby is targeting drivers who want to aim for the Jack Sears Trophy, which has been introduced for S2000 runners in 2013 as the newer NGTC machines get faster.
"What we want is someone quick, who is committed to winning the Jack Sears Trophy to launch their touring car career and really focus on it," added Hollamby.
"We can run it for not much more than a Renault Clio budget, so I am hoping we can do a deal."
Ollie Jackson finished 18th in the BTCC last year with the Golf, while the car's best result is two sevenths, scored by Tom Onslow-Cole in 2011.
