Conor Daly to make IndyCar test debut for AJ Foyt Racing at Sebring

Conor Daly will make his debut at the wheel of an IndyCar single-seater when he tests for the AJ Foyt Racing team at Sebring next week

American Daly has spent the last two years competing in the GP3 series, finishing 17th in the standings in 2011 and sixth this season.

He also took part in the Formula Renault 3.5 testing session at Barcelona in October.

"I am honoured to have the opportunity to drive an Indycar for the first time with AJ Foyt Racing," Daly said.

"I've grown up at the Indy 500 and have always dreamed of getting in an Indycar someday.

"I will do the best job I can to get to know the team and complete all the things they've got planned for the test. I can't thank Larry enough for organising this and taking an interest in my future."

Daly, 20, has won American championships in the Star Mazda and Skip Barber series. His father Derek raced in the CART Indycar series from 1982 to '89 after leaving Formula 1.

Team boss Larry Foyt suggested the test could lead to more for Daly if he performs strongly.

"Conor Daly is one of the exciting up-and-coming drivers in open wheel racing today," said Foyt.

"I had spoken to Conor at the F1 race in Austin and I was impressed. I thought this test was a perfect opportunity to see how he works with our team.

"Depending on how it goes, we may be able to do something with him in the future."
