Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress all but confirm split rumours

Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress have all but confirmed they will not continue to work together beyond 2013, following reports of Harvick's departure to Stewart-Haas Racing for 2014

On Sunday Harvick ended a 44-race winless streak for him and Richard Childress Racing with a hard fought victory at Phoenix.

Victory came just a few days after rumours that he could be on the verge of a leaving a team for which he has competed for nearly 12 years.

Following his win, Harvick was quick to address the subject when talking to reporters in a press conference, saying that regardless of what happens in the future he will remain good friends with his current boss.

"We can all talk about what's going to happen in 2014," said Harvick.

"We have 2012, we have 2013, and regardless of what happens on a business side of things, Richard Childress and myself will always be friends, good or bad.

"But we still have a lot of racing left to do and we owe it to our sponsors and our company to go out and do exactly what we did today and be men and do the best we can for everybody."

Richard Childress, who gave Harvick his break in the Sprint Cup series in 2001 after Dale Earnhardt's fatal accident at Daytona, said his driver's future relies on what he labels as a business decision.

"Kevin said it all, we're going to go to Homestead, try to win," Childress said.

"We look to everybody in '13 to go win a championship, and whatever happens, happens.

"It's a business decision. This is a business sport."

Harvick has finished third in the championship for the past two years but failed to make an impression in this year's Chase and is currently ranked eighth in points heading into the season-finale.
