Romain Grosjean relaxed about Lotus future despite Kimi Raikkonen news

Frenchman Grosjean is expected to stay on for another year at the team, which confirmed on Monday that Raikkonen had signed a new, one-year, contract.

Despite a season full of ups and down - including a one-race ban for a startline crash at Spa - Grosjean is convinced Lotus is happy with him.

Asked why he had not been announced at the same time as Raikkonen, Grosjean replied: "To be honest, I have no idea. I think with the team, we are happy together.

"They put a lot of confidence in me and had a lot of faith when I had a harder time, and we are working on improving all the problems we had, keeping the speed, so there is no reason that it goes bad for the future."

Grosjean, who said he found out about Raikkonen's new deal during the Indian Grand Prix last weekend, insisted he is still working hard to improve following the issues he has had this year, especially involving crashes at the starts of races.

"I don't forget the problems. I'm still working and trying to improve myself, and I think if I keep doing that I will make a big step forward," he said.

The Frenchman admitted he is regaining his confidence after two trouble-free grands prix in Korea and India, and says he will take the opportunities that he is presented with even though he is trying to be more cautious in his approach.

"I think the idea was to be conservative for 1m30s, which is the first lap, and then just push as normal, like I did in Korea and India.

"I don't think it's going to change much my approach. If there's opportunities here I will go for it, but I won't try anything else."
