Indian GP: Lewis Hamilton unsurprised by Red Bull's current form

The world champion has won the last three grands prix, and now sits six points ahead of Fernando Alonso in the standings while Hamilton is 62 adrift.

But Hamilton feels it would be naive to be surprised by Red Bull's form, as it clearly has a good concept for the current set of F1 technical regulations.

When asked on Thursday if Red Bull's form had shocked him, Hamilton said: "Not really. They do it every year.

"They did it in 2010, they did it in 2011, and they've done it this year. When they do it next year, it's not going to be a surprise.

"The way the rules are, the cars are just evolving every year. They've been on the same design of car for the last few years, and it works, so they just stick with it and it gets better and better.

"Everyone else then realises theirs doesn't work as well and has to change it, or move philosophy."

Hamilton added that the form of Red Bull and the gap to Vettel in the standings means he and McLaren are focused winning a first constructors' championship since 1998 rather than hoping for a swing in the drivers' standings.

"We want to win the constructors' championship, that is what we are focused on," he said. "I want to help the team because they have not won it for a long long time, so that would be cool.

"We have everything to gain and not much to lose at the moment. If we do a basic job we should be able to finish where we are.

"But if we do a really good job for the last few races then we should be able to step up and maybe clinch that title."
