Carlos Sainz Jr heads Barcelona Formula Renault 3.5 test line-up

Carlos Sainz Jr will get his first taste of Formula Renault 3.5 machinery during this week's post-season test at Barcelona

The Red Bull junior driver, a racewinner in British Formula 3 this year with Carlin, will step up with the team to try the FR3.5 car for the first time when the test kicks off on Tuesday morning.

Sainz will be joined at Carlin by his F3 team-mate, British championship runner-up Jazeman Jaafar, while the team's 2012 drivers Kevin Magnussen and Will Stevens will both drive for Fortec and DAMS over the two days.

Sainz said: "It's going to be great to test such a fast car for the first time. I've spent the year working with the team so I know how well they work.

"It's my home track and I'm in a great car so what more could I want? I'm going to enjoy the test but most of all learn as much as I can."

2012 FR3.5 race winners Arthur Pic and Marco Sorensen will be back in action. The Frenchman switches from DAMS to new team AV Formula, while Sorensen will spend both days with the Lotus team has raced for this season.

Notable newcomers to the category include GP2 race winner Marcus Ericsson, and GP3 racers Conor Daly, Will Buller and Matias Laine.

Stoffel Vandoorne, who succeeded new FR3.5 champion Robin Frijns as Formula Renault Eurocup champion this year, will drive for Arden Caterham. His FR2.0 rival Norman Nato, who recently tested for British F3 team T-Sport, will also drive for the team.

Former race winner Albert Costa will make his return to the category after switching to the Eurocup Megane Trophy for 2012 and winning that championship last weekend.

Teenager Matheo Tuscher, runner-up in Formula 2 this year, will spend a day driving for Pons Racing.
