Frijns wants to learn as much as possible in Abu Dhabi F1 test

Robin Frijns hopes he can learn a lot by testing with Red Bull at the Formula 1 young driver test in Abu Dhabi next month

The new Formula Renault 3.5 champion earned a day with the current world champion team as his prize for winning the title.

He will take over from Red Bull junior Antonio Felix da Costa, who will drive the RB8 for the first two days.

The Red Bull outing means Frijns will drive on two of the three days at Yas Marina, as he will spend the first day with Sauber.

"Every metre in a Formula 1 car counts," Frijns told AUTOSPORT. "The first day with Sauber, then a day off, then the third day with Red Bull. I'm looking forward to it.

"I can learn a lot from that. Red Bull have the best car in Formula 1 at the moment, and they're looking good for a third championship in a row.

"I think they're going to do it, and I'm thrilled that I'm going to get to drive the best car in Formula 1 this year."

The Dutchman added that he is expecting to have to fight hard to make his way into F1 in the near future.

"My objective now is Formula 1, of course," he said. "But nothing gets given to you in this world.

"Nothing is easy, even when you win three championships in a row [Formula BMW Europe, Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula Renault 3.5]. But we will keep working."
