Horner: Sebastian Vettel using lessons from 2010 Formula 1 title

Sebastian Vettel's surge to the top of the world championship standings has been helped by the lessons he learned from doing the same in 2010, reckons team boss Christian Horner

Vettel moved ahead of Fernando Alonso in the drivers' standings after his victory in Korea on Sunday, and he now has a six points advantage with four races remaining.

Horner has no doubts that Vettel is delivering the form of his career, but thinks one of the big factors has been the way the German has dealt with the difficult times this season.

"He has continued to mature and gained experience in the last couple of years; and I think he is driving better than ever," explained Horner.

"He went through tough times in 2010 en route to that title, and all the experiences he has gone through stand him in good stead. But none of us take anything for granted.

"We have only moved ahead of Fernando by six points; and he was standing next to Seb on the podium.

"I am sure this title will go all the way down to the wire and we will need to extract the most we can out of every single weekend, like we have here and like we almost did in Japan. It is important in the remaining four races that we build on this momentum."

Horner believes that the current championship battle is the toughest one that his team has encountered.

"It doesn't get any easier and the more you succeed the harder it becomes," he said.

"This year it has been more intense that any of the previous years. The first one is very special, we defended the title better than we won it, but there is still a long way to go in this championship and Seb finds himself six points in the lead with four races to go.

"But his main opponent was only one place away from him on the podium, so we are not even thinking of titles at the moment."
