Singapore GP: Red Bull's Mark Webber says unpredictable nature of race will help his chances of finishing well

The Australian lines up seventh for Sunday's race after lapping 0.570s slower than team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

But even though overtaking is difficult at the Marina Bay circuit, Webber believes that there will be plenty of opportunities to recover.

"It is going to be a long GP with plenty of strategy involved," said Webber.

"I have given up predicting what is going to happen. [Pastor] Maldonado is on the front row. He has been in hiding since Barcelona and now he's here again!

"We have to be open to all eventualities. It's not necessarily a two-stop race. Always the first stint is important."

Webber complained about balance problems in qualifying, but is hopeful that this will not carry over into the race.

"I don't want to get super-technical, but it was not the balance we wanted," said Webber.

"At Monza, Seb was out in Q2 and the race was good and Spa wasn't too bad.

"There was more of a DRS effect with the other teams running bigger wings in qualifying and low downforce and here that doesn't exist, so balance is the key [on Sunday]."
