Villeneuve bumped out of lead one lap from finish of home Nationwide Series race at Montreal
Jacques Villeneuve was left frustrated at losing out on a potential home victory after getting bumped out of the lead by Justin Allgaier on the last lap of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Montreal
Making only his second start of the season and driving for Penske Racing, Villeneuve led 43 of 81 laps and held the advantage in a second attempt to a green-flag finish - which increased the original race distance by seven laps.
The 1997 Formula 1 world champion was able to stretch his fuel mileage enough to remain in the lead despite the unexpected longer final stint, but under braking for Turn 6 Turner Motorsports' Justin Allgaier ran into the back of Villeneuve's Penske Dodge.
"He took me out," said Villeneuve. "We were the quickest car out there. When you run in the front all day like that and you get taken out on the last lap it's just frustrating but I guess that's life.
"When it's a mistake you let it go, but when it seems to be done on purpose that gets a little bit annoying."
Earlier in the race polesitter Alex Tagliani had been on the receiving end of contact with Villeneuve, getting spun out of the lead at the exit of Turn 2.
The French-Canadian also fought at the front with Danica Patrick, who led the race for 20 laps until experiencing mechanical problems following a bizarre incident. A fan threw a shoe on the track, which Patrick's car hit while in the lead, causing damage to the rear end of her JR Motorsports Chevrolet.
Villeneuve, whose only win at the track named after his late father came in 1993 in Formula Atlantic, finished the race third behind Allgaier and his Penske team-mate Sam Hornish Jr.
