Sebastien Ogier to race in VW Sciroccos at Nurburgring

Sebastien Ogier will make his Volkswagen Scirocco Cup debut at the Nurburgring this weekend, and will be joined by rally legends Juha Kankkunen, Carlos Sainz and Markku Alen

The 28-year-old Frenchman, who has been driving an S2000-spec VW Motorsport-run Skoda Fabia in the World Rally Championship this year, previously competed in one of the biogas-powered Sciroccos on his way to victory in last year's Race of Champions.

With his race experience limited to a pair of outings in the French F4 single-seater series at Paul Ricard last year, he is looking forward to the challenge.

"To run in the Scirocco Cup one week before Rallye Deutschland is a nice change and I'm tremendously looking forward to it. I drove the car before, at my Race of Champions victory, and it's almost as much fun as my rally car.

"With a front-wheel-drive car you can't drift really well, though, but that's not important here. Competing with legends like Juha Kankkunen, Carlos Sainz or Markku Alen is a great thing - I'm sure they haven't lost any of their former skills."

Kankkunen and Sainz have both competed in the Scirocco series before, although Alen - who competed in the DTM and Porsche one-make racing in the 1990s - will be making his series debut.

Ogier's occasional WRC team-mate Kevin Abbring will also race at the Nurburgring.
