Alex Fontana hits the front in second Paul Ricard Formula 2 practice
Alex Fontana's first flying lap was enough to leave him quickest in the second Formula 2 practice session at Paul Ricard
The Swiss/Greek driver opted to use his fresh set of tyres at the very start of the session when the circuit was at its hottest, while the majority of his rivals decided to keep their fresh set until the end to run a qualifying simulation.
Matheo Tuscher was Fontana's closest challenger, ending the session 0.349 seconds behind, just edging out the pacesetter from free practice one, Christopher Zanella. Daniel McKenzie again looked competitive in fourth position ahead of Kevin Mirocha, who set the most laps of anyone during the session.
In sixth position was Luciano Bacheta, closely followed by Markus Pommer. Dino Zamparelli was another man to go out early on his fresh tyres, running strongly early on before slipping down the field in the final minutes. Plamen Kralev and Axcil Jefferies completed the top 10.
