Christopher Zanella sets early F2 pace at Paul Ricard
Christopher Zanella set the early pace at Paul Ricard, setting the fastest time in Friday's first Formula 2 free practice session
Daniel McKenzie topped the timings screens for most of the session, the Britonn being one of the few drivers to have visited the circuitl previously when racing in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2011.
He was ultimately beaten by Zanella, who clocked a time 0.170s quicker on his final lap of the session.
Markus Pommer ended the session in third, less than 0.1s behind McKenzie, with championship leader Luciano Bacheta in fourth position. Dino Zamparelli continued his strong form from Brands Hatch, where he secured his maiden F2 podium, to go fifth quickest.
Mauro Calamia had his best performance of the season so far to wind up sixth ahead of Axcil Jefferies and Hector Hurst.
Usual frontrunners Mihai Marinescu, Matheo Tuscher and Alex Fontana could only manage ninth, 10th and 11th respectively.
