Daniel Juncadella dominates Masters of Formula 3 qualifying at Zandvoort

Daniel Juncadella will start the 2012 Masters of Formula 3 from pole position after topping a dry second qualifying session at Zandvoort

As was the case in second practice, the only other dry session at the Dutch track, Juncadella simply overwhelmed the rest of the field.

His overall best, a 1m31.783s, put him more than half a second clear at the top, with most of the gains coming in the final sector. At the death the Prema man, the only driver able to dip below the 1m32s mark, set another lap good enough for pole, underlining his control of the session.

Only Carlos Sainz Jr (Carlin) was able to upset Juncadella's charge, jumping to the top of the timesheets with five minutes to run.

While he had no answer to Juncadella's final burst, he did enough to secure a front-row berth alongside his compatriot.

Third went to Prema's Raffaele Marciello, who did just enough to shade out local man Hannes van Asseldonk (Fortec) and last year's victor Felix Rosenqvist (Mucke Motorsport).

The Swede will share the third row with team-mate Pascal Wehrlein, with Carlin's Will Buller and Prema's Sven Muller occupying the fourth.

Michael Lewis (Prema) and Alex Lynn (Fortec) meanwhile secured the fifth row, although both dropped down the order in the closing minutes.

Lewis had been fourth when Josh Webster's off at Turn 8 brought out the red flags and set up the final eight-minute shoot-out, while Lynn had been sixth.
