Johan Kristoffersson quickest as Audis dominate wet Spa Superstars practice

Johan Kristoffersson comfortably led a rain-soaked first practice session for the International Superstars Series at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium

With the rain falling steadily throughout the 30-minute session, the conditions suited the four-wheel-drive Audi RS5s perfectly. Kristoffersson made the most of the wet track, the KMS driver sitting second for the majority of the session before charging to the top with a 2m54.882s best right at the fall of the flag.

The time was enough to displace the Audi Sport Italia RS5 of Gianni Morbidelli, who had spent the majority of the session in the top spot thanks to his 2m55.717s lap.

Behind the two Audis, there was a one-second gap back to the best of the two-wheel-drive cars, the Dinamic BMW of Thomas Biagi.

Luigi Ferrara, who is making his first Superstars start of the year at Spa, was fourth in the CAAL Racing Mercedes, ahead of ex-Formula 1 drivers Mika Salo (Swiss Team Maserati) and Tonio Liuzzi (CAAL Racing Mercedes).

Thomas Schoffler finished seventh fastest in the third Audi RS5, his run hampered by gearbox problems that eventually caused him to stop on track with four minutes of the session remaining.

Alessandro Garofano (Roma Racing Mercedes), Francesco Sini (Solaris Chevrolet) and Stefano Gabellini (Dinamic BMW) rounded out the top 10, while British Touring Car Championship driver Jeff Smith, on his debut in the Superstars Series with Dinamic BMW, was 12th fastest.
