Gustavo Yacaman fends off Sebastian Saavedra for Toronto Indy Lights win

Gustavo Yacaman survived extended pressure from Sebastian Saavedra to win this weekend's Indy Lights race around the streets of Toronto

Yacaman (Team Moore) and Saavedra (AFS/Andretti) passed polesitter Victor Carbone on lap 13 and wasted little time in making the battle for the race their own, although Yacaman was able to open a gap over Saavedra in the final phase of the race to cross the line with a 2.2-second advantage. Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver Carbone completed the podium.

It was a disastrous race for Schmidt team-mates and championship rivals Esteban Guerrieri and Tristan Vautier, who collided on the opening lap. Vautier suffered broken suspension in the incident and crashed out a couple of corners later, while Guerrieri was forced to pit for a replacement front wing. He then lost more time when the safety car picked him up by accident before eventually waving him through, but ultimately recovered to sixth.

The most intense battle was for fourth place between Peter Dempsey (Belardi) and Oliver Webb (Schmidt). It was eventually settled in Dempsey's favour despite Webb's repeated efforts to find a way past.
