Jorge Lorenzo spurred on by adversity in Germany following Assen collision

Jorge Lorenzo says the damage from his Dutch TT disaster only adds to his motivation at this weekend's German Grand Prix

The Yamaha rider ceded 25 points to title rival Casey Stoner, had to forgo one engine from his year's allocation and injured his ankle ligaments as a result of being taken out by Gresini's Alvaro Bautista at the first turn in the Netherlands last weekend.

Lorenzo admitted he is not at 100 per cent at the Sachsenring, but said adrenaline and determination were helping carry him through.

"I'm not 100 per cent and I get more tired in the upper body compensating but I think we still did a good job this morning and this afternoon," he said after finishing third fastest in the opening two practice sessions.

"I have more pain walking than on the bike which is good and adrenaline helps with it too.

"The injury, the loss of points and the loss of the engine makes it more difficult for the championship but this just gives me more motivation to keep working and come back stronger to win."

Lorenzo's stablemate Ben Spies blamed errant set-up changes for his pace in first practice, when he was 10th, and said the afternoon rain then masked improvements made between the two sessions.

"This morning was a bit frustrating - we went out to try a couple of things that didn't work, the bike wasn't that bad we just made it a bit too slow," he explained.

"We ended up with a decent setting this afternoon when it was wet. I'm not too upset because when it's rained here the last couple of years I've been horrible but this year although we were ninth we weren't that far from the front."
