BMW thrilled with DTM comeback form so far
The man behind Bruno Spengler's surprise push for the 2012 DTM title says that BMW's superb early-season form has left the manufacturer very satisfied with its comeback season in the championship
Charly Lamm, whose Schnitzer Motorsport outfit ran Spengler to a victory in only the manufacturer's second race back in the series since 1992, said that expectations have been raised in the races that have followed.
"If someone had told us a few months ago we would have a win, a second place and a pole position to our name after just four races, I would have told them they were mad," said the veteran team boss.
"As such, we are more than happy with the way the return of BMW to the DTM has started. The package of car, drivers and team is strong and is always improving."
Spengler, who joined BMW from Mercedes during last winter, lost ground on championship leader Gary Paffett after retiring with damage at Spielberg last time out, still lies fourth in the points and is BMW's highest-placed driver.
With 2011 champion Martin Tomczyk also making it onto the podium this year with fellow BMW team RMG, the M3s have been in the running for a win at every race bar the Hockenheim season-opener.
Lamm is keen to see this continue, but after a number of the Munich machines joined Spengler in suffering damage at Spielberg, he is all too aware that with Paffett's advantage over Spengler standing at 43 points with six races left, a non-finish at the Norisring this weekend could prove costly.
"We obviously want to make the most of our opportunities in every race. Unfortunately we were unable to do that in Spielberg, due to two early incidents with both cars, so we had to learn the hard way," he added.
"We have made it our goal to exhaust our full potential on every circuit. We know that setbacks can also occur."
