WTCC race winner Norbert Michelisz to make Superstars debut at the Hungaroring

Norbert Michelisz will make his International Superstars Series debut at the Hungaroring later this month

The Hungarian will drive a BMW M3 for Scuderia Giudici at his local race, dovetailing the one-off drive with his World Touring Car Championship programme.

"I'm excited to join the Superstars world," said Michelisz.

"The races are always spectacular and unpredictable, thanks to the great balance between the cars. That pretty much explains the success of the series, which is followed by a lot of fans in Europe, including Hungary.

"At the same time, I'm proud to join a championship that features a lot of great drivers. It will be great fun. Now it's up to us do our best and fight to be among the frontrunners."

Team owner Gianni Giudici is equally excited to have Michelisz on board, particularly after a tough previous round at Mugello, where the team's best result was a 15th in race one for Marco Fumagalli.

"We are proud to have Norbert with us," said Giudici.

"The team is doing a great job in order to field a really competitive car. We're working on the weight balancing of our M3 with the goal of improving the car's performance and bring it up to its top specs.

"We want to rebound after the tough luck suffered at Mugello and we fully intend to fight for the top positions. The track will be the judge of that, though."

Michelisz caused a stir at this year's Hungarian round of the WTCC when he won the reverse grid race in front of thousands of delighted fans.

The Superstars round at the Hungaroring kicks off on June 30.
