Jazeman Jaafar claims maiden British Formula 3 win in Rockingham race one

The Malaysian, from third on the grid, speared past slow-starting front-row men Jack Harvey and Alex Lynn to instantly open a 1.6-second lead. He maintained it at around the two-second mark to take his first on-the-road British F3 win, after claiming 'class' honours last time in Pau, where he was second behind overall winner Raffaele Marciello.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Jaafar. "I got a good start and I was able to control it from there. Incredible - I don't know how to sum it up in a sentence! I just had to stay consistent and not make any mistakes."

Behind Jaafar's Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen, Lynn did a good job of damage-limitation at the first corner from his poor getaway to emerge in second place, and from then on he headed Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes team-mates Felix Serralles and Hannes van Asseldonk.

Van Asseldonk set fastest lap, but a small mistake allowed Harvey onto his tail, although the Carlin-run poleman was unable to improve on fifth place, despite getting very close to the Dutchman at the finish.

Pietro Fantin claimed sixth for Carlin, while team-mate Harry Tincknell was the best of the back-of-grid starters to rise to seventh. Carlos Sainz Jr quickly made it up to eighth place in another Carlin entry, taking the spot when Double R's Fahmi Ilyas ran wide due to front-wing damage. Sainz had drawn reversed-grid pole, but he and T-Sport driver Nick McBride (ninth) were both penalised 30 seconds for track-limit transgressions.

Pipo Derani (Fortec) moved up to 10th in a clash with Geoff Uhrhane (Double R) that forced the Australian out of the race, and inherits the reversed-grid pole. T-Sport's Spike Goddard took National Class honours from Double R driver Duvashen Padayachee, who claimed the fastest lap in class.
