Win will spur Audi on, says Edoardo Mortara's Rosberg team boss
Edoardo Mortara's maiden DTM victory at Spielberg can be the start of a major resurgence from Audi, according to his Rosberg team boss Arno Zensen
Mortara held off champion Martin Tomczyk and series leader Gary Paffett for the entire 47 laps to take his first win in the DTM and give Audi its first win of the season.
"Triumphs always spur you on," Zensen said. "But they also cause the pressure to rise. As a team and as Audi Sport on the whole, we showed that we can win. We want to - and have to - continue this now."
Mortara's win was the first for Zensen's squad in the DTM since 1995, although it did win in International Touring Cars with DTM machinery the following year in Helsinki.
The team owner, who is this year running current-spec cars for the first time since 2000, paid tribute to the work done behind the scenes by Audi Sport to turn the A5 into a winning machine after three straight defeats at the hands of Mercedes and series returnee BMW.
"The races are extremely close and Audi's start into the season could probably have been better," he added. "But everyone at Audi Sport worked extremely hard in order to be in contention again at the far front of the field - and it worked out.
"Naturally, I'm particularly happy for Team Rosberg to have clinched the first victory of the new Audi A5 DTM. This shows the potential that the team has, and also the potential of the car and of Audi Sport as a whole. For one thing is clear, you can only prevail in the current DTM if everyone works together for the same aim."
