Alessandro Balzan wins again in Ferrari race two at Mugello

Alessandro Balzan capped off a perfect weekend at Mugello with a comfortable win in the second Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli race

Starting from pole position, Balzan opened up a commanding 2.5-second lead on the first lap of the race. It proved to be an unassailable lead, with the Ferrari Moscow driver cruising to his second win of the weekend, closing the gap to championship leader Bjorn Grossman to just nine points in the process.

Max Blancardi (Motor Malucelli) was second, but having lost so much ground fighting with Grossman on the first lap the Italian was never in a realistic position to challenge for the lead. A mid-race charge saw the gap down to just 1.5s, but that was as close as Blancardi could get.

Grossman finished third for Ferrari Moscow, easily beating team-mate Stefano Gai and Dario Caso (CDP) after the group jostled for position in the early stages of the race.

Andrii Kruglyk (Ferrari Ukraina) and Flavio Pierleoni (Motor Malucelli) were next, ahead of Patrick Gobbo (Rossocorsa Pellin) and Briton Alex Martin (Stratstone Ferrari). Robert Pergl (Scuderia Praha) rounded out the top 10.

While Balzan and Grossman both added to their points scores, Niki Cadei (Motor Piacenza) lost second place in the standings after a poor day. Having missed the first race thanks to a shared entry with Lorenzo Case', Cadei was in the hunt for a podium spot early in race two. But he never recovered from a small off on lap two, which eventually resulted in an unscheduled pitstop and a 12th-place finish.

Meanwhile, Raffaele Giannoni (Motor Piacenza) won the Coppa Shell race after polesitter Alexey Basov (Ferrari Moscow) had an early spin.
