Barth sent to back of Curitiba grid

SUNRED SEAT's Fredy Barth has had his qualifying one lap times deleted, and will be sent to the back of the grid for both races, at the opening round of the World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba

The Swiss driver was philosophical after receiving his post-qualifying penalty for various infringements in an incident-filled session.

Barth had provisionally qualified in ninth for race one and had appeared set for a front row start in race two.

"I didn't see the marshal signalling me in to be weighed," said Barth. "Also, I cut the chicane on my fastest sector and then I didn't leave my steering wheel fastened securely in parc ferme. So you can see it is really my lucky day. I am hoping that I've done every mistake now and the rest of the season will be fine."

Barth was uncertain if his penalty would have any implications for the rest of the grid.

"I am not sure if they will leave my grid place empty or if Alain Menu will move up to 10th for the reverse grid pole. That's what he was clearly aiming for, so perhaps now he's got it. It's a little internal Swiss business, I am now waiting for a payment from him..." he joked.
