Stewart attacks GP support decision
Jackie Stewart has attacked the decision to remove Formula Three from the British Grand Prix support bill
A round of the F3 series has traditionally been run on the Saturday of the GP weekend, but Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley have now moved to standardise the F1 support programme. The F3 race has been axed on the grounds that it is not profitable enough.
Stewart is trying to convince the RAC and F3 team owners to attempt to get the race reinstated.
'I have written to Bernie and Max saying what they have done is completely wrong,' said the triple World Champion.
'We should be looking after our young talent. Having an F3 race during the British Grand Prix is the perfect arena to display their skills. British F3 really is the greatest training ground there is.'
Stewart also confirmed that rising Indian star Narain Karthikeyan and EFDA Euroseries champion Tomas Scheckter would drive for his team in 2000. Both will also test for the Jaguar Racing F1 squad in the second half of the season.
