Sauber ready for new season

Formula 1 team Sauber claimed it was ready to contest this year's Formula 1 championship, after launching its 2000 challenger on Wednesday evening.

After launching the C19 in Zurich, team boss Peter Sauber claimed that the new racecar was ready to do battle.

"Our car, the Red Bull Sauber Petronas C19, was completed last year," Sauber said, "and has been ready for testing early."

The Swiss also stated that having two experienced drivers - Pedro Diniz and Mika Salo - would help the team fight for positions midfield.

"Diniz was with the team in 1999, he knows the procedures and will now be able to capitalise on this.

"Salo showed as Michael Schumacher's substitute in the Ferrari last year, what he is capable of.

"I'm convinced that together with them, a further improved Sauber Petronas V10 engine, and the additions in personnel, we will be successful."

"Pedro has proved himself a driver with consistent performance potential.

"In his sixth Formula 1 season he will be able to drive in the top ten.

"Among his strengths are his constructive contributions to the development of the car and his steady and beneficial work with the whole team."

Sauber also confirmed that 29-year-old Diniz and Salo [33] will have equal status within the team.
