Q & A with Nico Rosberg

Q. You were hoping to get ahead of Raikkonen at Valencia, is there anything you could have done differently in the race to finish third?
Nico Rosberg: It panned out very well, we really got the best out of it. Fifth place was good just behind the McLaren, which was probably one of the fastest cars that weekend so everything was positive. We made a little bit of a mistake with the tyres. Raikkonen went on the soft tyres in the second stint which was the better tyre, and we took the hard tyre.
We took the safe way which guaranteed us to keep our position as we were on the same tyres as the people behind us. But I think we should have taken a little risk to attack Raikkonen and we could have attacked him.
Q. Patrick Head said that you were probably leaving this year?
NR: No, he didn't say that. He said that I may choose to go somewhere else, which says nothing. But he didn't say that I probably would.
Q. You said last week that it was a case of the sooner the better for finalising next year - are you getting there?
NR: I don't know, but soon. In the next few weeks.
Q. What are you expecting this weekend?
NR: I'm expecting to go really well, the car is well suited to the fast track and I think that we can do really well.
Q. You've finished fourth or fifth in each of the five races. Do you consider that kind of result as doing really well here?
NR: I'd consider that to be doing really well. Decent points would be good, but we can do better and maybe could even get on the podium. Even if it rains, we should do well.
Q. What new parts have you got this weekend?
NR: New front wing and rear wing, but then again it's a different downforce level.
Q. How do you see the championship at this stage?
NR: Red Bull is going to be very strong here this weekend. It's one of the tracks that suits them a lot. Jenson, yes, with races like he had in Valencia it might be tight at the end. I still think he's going to do it, but it's going to be a little bit tight at the end.
Q. Having shown that you can get the best out of your car, are you now impatient to get on and fight for a championship?
NR: I'm not impatient, but I'd really like to have a car that can go for podiums and race wins next year. I just have to evaluate which team is the best possibility and whether Williams or someone else can do it.
Q. What do you think McLaren's revival?
NR: Very impressive. They gained a second from one race to the next which was amazing.
Q. The Williams has been very consistent recently while other teams' have fluctuated. Why is that?
NR: We are the most consistent team, we are always there. I have no idea why, it's completely the opposite of the way we were last year. I've no idea.
Q. You seem not to struggle so much with the tyres?
NR: We do struggle, but not as much as some other teams and I'm very confident that wherever we go I'll be there.
Q. With the consistency you have, do you feel you should have had more points?
NR: I don't think so. I'm fifth in the world championship which I think there's no way I could have done better than that. We have got the most out of it this year. For the team, it's unfortunate that Kazuki hasn't scored yet because we'd be third in the constructors' championship if he had been able to score a decent amount of points, which would be a very strong position.
Q. Williams is considering changing engines - how do you rate Toyota?
NR: Just last weekend I complimented them because in Valencia they provided us with good engines.
Q. Is Spa still as challenging as ever?
NR: Well, Eau Rouge isn't challenging so that's one challenge less, but it's still an amazing track and is very difficult. It's one of my favourites - a very special track.
Q. Is it difficult to concentrate with all of the rumours about a McLaren drive?
NR: No. It's easy!
Q. What do you think of the possibility of going to McLaren?
NR: From my point of view, it's an interesting option.
Q. How many teams are you in talks with?
NR: I'm in talks with several teams and I'm pleased with my situation because I have some good opportunities for next year.
Q. Are the options that you have more interesting than they have been in the past?
NR: I'm in a strong position this year. Definitely as strong as I've been in my career so there are some great options for next year.
Q. Can you pick your options?
NR: It's not just down to me. It's a mixture. They are not just waiting for me, that's not the case. That would be nice, but it's not the case. That happens when you are a four-time world champion.
Q. Have you proved that you have what it takes to be at the top of this sport?
NR: Yes, I've always believed that. But it still remains to be seen.
Q. If you have a KERS car behind you exiting La Source...
NR: That's not going to be a good situation. I'd rather have more fuel and be behind coming out of La Source. It's very challenging with the KERS cars.
Q. How much of an advantage is KERS going to be?
NR: I'm not sure. I'm sure it's going to be an advantage, especially up the hill because if you push the button there you're going to have a huge gain. But I'm not sure how much because there's not so much hard braking.
Q. What are you looking forward to next year – no refuelling?
NR: I don't like no refuelling. I don't like the idea of starting the race in a car with 220 litres on board. It'll drive like a truck.
Q. The challenge is how much it changes?
NR: That's what a racing driver needs, to adapt every single lap. I don't think it's going to be a huge issue.
Q. What are the advantages of Williams?
NR: At Williams, I'm team leader. I'm not if I move. I'm very comfortable in the team, that's very positive.
Q. If you have a competitive car but would be a number two driver – would you accept that?
NR: Yes, you just have to work hard to become a team leader soon.
Q. What benchmark do you set yourself as team leader?
NR: It's good to have a team-mate that pushes you. But Kazuki isn't that far off me in terms of pace, it's just the results. But more of that would help as well. Not too strong though!
